This session with Carli was beautiful. I usually plan out my shoots in a bit more detail with the client but this session was off the cuff, last minute, and super fun! Carli is a fantastic songwriter from Spokane, Washington. When she came to Nashville and wanted to make some photographs, I was all about it. She is super talented, hard working and will be in your ears before you know it. You can check her out here http://www.carliosikamusic.com
Natural light is how I shoot 99% of the time, I have been told everything from it's lazy to its a shortcut, I have been asked why I don't use augmented lighting etc etc. The answer for me is that it just fits my style. I have used location lighting, fill flash and just about every lighting set up, modifier, and diffuser you can imagine, but at the end of the day, for me and my work, I just don't feel like there is any substitute for Gods light source and a bit of open shade, or diffusion from clouds or a window shade. I have never been more happy with my results than when I shoot all natural light, my post work flows more easily and I like the style it provides me, not to mention the ability to be very run and gun when needed. All of this said, I think it's a personal stylistic choice, and you should make the choice for yourself and for your clients needs based on what works best for the session you are booking, and the project at hand. If you have questions about natural light and how to get the most out of it, I'd love to hear from you! You can comment below or email me anytime. firstname.lastname@example.org
Carli and I shot in a half block area around lower Broadway for about 40 minutes and I am really pleased with the images we created. Here are a few more of my favorites.
